Go- The sound edit

Above is the film GO that I had to edit sound for;
 For this task we were given a choice of six clips to place a soundtrack on using Avid. When I chose Go the footage was completely wiped of sound and we didn't even have a back story to go by. I recorded sounds such as footsteps, voices etc. However, I used freesound.org for most of my sounds. When editing sound together I found it easy and enjoyable. I chose The Beatles Song because I felt it fitted the atmosphere for the dance routine perfectly.
 I struggled to find a sound that fit small boxes hitting the floor. My teacher pointed this out that she liked that I covered every little sound as without these sounds the audience would notice and it would make you jump out of the film. I finally found the sound by using the sound of jumping in the snow. it worked really well.
 The only thing I would change next time is the footsteps and the heartbeat as the sound levels were wrong when it was played through the speakers. I would also place sounds of the actors rolling and throwing the food during the dance scene.

The Infection script sample

 The Infection is a post apocalyptic short. There are three characters within this piece one of which isn't present. The main character (Maddie Stone) is creating a goodbye video. She persists to get a message out to the people about what the government are trying to keep from her even though she herself is dying. After being interrupted she tries to escape.  Below is a snippet from the script;

The Lord Of The Rings rough edit

Above is the rough edit of the fellowship of the ring scene in The Lord Of The Rings;
  We were given the instruction of edit it how we feel it should be and to not necessarily follow the script. Using Avid I accessed the footage, created and sorted my bins by character. As I began to play with the footage I was really unsure on what angle to go down. So I decided I would keep it close to the script but how I would have wanted the scene to go. I really enjoy editing and Using Avid it was really interesting to use something different. I managed to link different shots with the same sound and sync the footage up correctly to create fluidity.
 When it was shown to a group of people they really liked it. A few people in the group were shocked to find a Gandalf shot which I had found searching through the footage. The teacher pointed out on my timeline that I had carried the sound from one clip slightly to another. He stated that this was a good thing as it makes the scene flow more fluidly.
 If I were to do it again I would have chose a different direction in which to take the scene. I would have focused more on the metastrategy rather than how I remembered the actual edit that was used for the feature film.

Lady Gaga

I created this cut out animation in college for an assignment.  I decided that I wanted to make it about Lady Gaga as I thought I had a good idea to represent her mind. I got some photos of Lady Gaga and her motorbike and cut them to make her mouth move.  I then drew a road on two pieces of black card I had stuck together.

 I used IStop Motion to film it. I then edited the sound on Garage band. I then used IMovie to create the titles and credits. Although it isn't the best cut out animation I feel that a little more time spend on it would have made it better and seem less.

Age is but a number

As time flies by things start to change,
Your nipples scrape the floor,
Your skin starts to age,
Hairs grow from your chin and wont go away,
You start to go deaf,
And misunderstand what I say,
Your arse gets flatter,
And dimples appear,
Underneath all of this you are still here,
You start to go blind,
And need Jam Jars to see,
You are so kind,
You mean so much to me,
As old age sets in,
You forget our names,
Shouting anything from Fred, Harry and Dave,
Your pits and legs like a lions mane,
Cos you can never be bothered to shave,
But at the end of the day,
 I wouldn't change a thing,
Cos life without you is worth nothing.

Twisted Branches

  I created this trailer whilst in college. I was part of a team of six, the task had to be completed within three days which included pre and post production.  My job roles were to write the script, acting and performing a recce. As we were getting marked on editing we each edited our own versions of the trailer.
 I really enjoyed doing this project as we got to film outside and in different locations.  Whilst on location we had a boom mic, tripod, radio mic and light reflectors. The camera we used was a DSLR.  We had six hours to shoot the footage and get the equipment back to the college.  We each then had one day to edit the footage. I edited the footage using Final cut pro. I found the software relatively simple to use however the text tools were hard to find and use.
 I really enjoyed doing this project as I got to feel as part of a real production and was useful in how I had to develop my communication skills. If I were to do this project again I would have liked to have taken a different role within the crew as camera work is something I enjoy.

Friendship

You hide behind a mask,
And fool everyone you know,
But everytime I look into your eyes I see pain,
I see your soul screaming out for help,
And yet no one lends their heart,
Don't fight it...
Let me in,
I give you my heart,
I give you my soul,
And I Give you my love.
And together we can find the light.

First Post

Ever since before I can remember I have loved film. The magical feeling that over comes me with every programme or film I consume. I would draw pictures of my ideas of films and programmes on a magnetic drawing board. As I got older I would use this as a way to blank out the rest of the world. Whether that be from bullying at school or parents getting divorced my imagination and films world I created was always there for me. Helping me to stay strong. Now I have many scripts, stories and ideas all written down. Some have many drafts and others have been made into short films or vines. Although I have made detours along the way with completing a joinery course and travelling, I realised that it was always mean't to be film that I wanted and needed to have a career in. So I did a media course and came to University which is where I am now.
